Reyes, Church to DL; F-Mart up

The Mets finally took action regarding their injury situation Tuesday, placing Jose Reyes (tendinitis in right calf) and Ryan Church (sore right hamstring) on the disabled list. Neither move comes as a surprise, but what does is the fallout: Wonder Boy Fernando Martinez has gotten the call from Triple-A Buffalo, hitting the Major Leagues at the age of 20.

The Mets have insisted as recently as this month that they wouldn't promote Martinez unless he could get significant playing time in the Majors. And he might. Even at 20, Martinez would seem to possess a more powerful bat than either Angel Pagan or Jeremy Reed, batting .290 with eight homers in 165 at-bats with Buffalo.

Earlier Tueday, the Mets also acquired an infielder in a trade with the Indians -- no, not Mark DeRosa. In exchange for cash, the Mets acquired shortstop Wilson Valdez, placing him on their 25-man roster.
