Mets wobbling, a game above .500

Another day, another blowout loss, and things are looking grim at Citi Field. The good vibes from three straight wins over the Cardinals have disappeared over the first two Subway Series games this weekend, and a despondent Jerry Manuel just addressed the media here in Queens.

reddingyanks.JPG"We just lack a few things right now," Manuel said.

They lack two Carloses, one Jose and some reliable relief pitching, to be precise. And they will continue to lack those things for some time.

Simply put, they have to find a way to win with what they have. Even if Omar Minaya is working on a deal -- and he swears he's not close -- the Mets can't continue forward on this pace if they have any designs on making the playoffs. They've still within striking distance of the division and the Wild Card, but hardly on their own merits. They can't count on that for long.

For those looking to the trade market for solutions, the Indians just minutes ago traded Mark DeRosa to the Cardinals for reliever Chris Perez. That's one potential puzzle piece gone, though Aubrey Huff and Nick Johnson still remain.
